The HGU Digital Library is an online book borrowing platform built to give Highstone Global University students and the wider public seamless access to a growing catalogue of academic and self development resources. As an extension of HGU’s broader digital ecosystem, the library needed to feel purposeful, easy to navigate, and fully functional as a self service platform without requiring any manual intervention from the university’s team.
The system was built to remove the barriers that traditionally limit students in online institutions from accessing quality reading resources, bringing the library experience entirely into the digital space.
The brief was to create a student facing digital library that felt intuitive, clean, and purposeful. HGU’s student base is globally distributed, so the platform needed to work seamlessly across devices and for users with varying levels of technical familiarity.
The core idea was simplicity with function a browsable catalogue where students can search, preview, and borrow titles in just a few clicks.
I designed the experience around a familiar e-commerce style interface, repurposed intelligently for a library context, so students could navigate it without any learning curve. The “Borrow A Book” interaction replaced the traditional cart and checkout flow, making the experience feel native to academic life rather than transactional.

Cart-based borrowing flow with a clean, intuitive checkout experience. Sortable and filterable book listings. Fully responsive design for desktop, tablet, and mobile. Integrated with the broader HGU database ecosystem.
The library launched as a live, functional resource for HGU’s enrolled student base adding genuine academic value to the university’s digital infrastructure. Students across multiple countries can now access, browse, and borrow titles independently, reinforcing HGU’s commitment to accessible, high-quality online education.
